A blog is a type of website, usually written by an individual with day-to-day entries of comments from participating members, descriptions of events, and various other materials such as graphics or video. Entries are usually displayed in reverse-chronological order. The word ‘Blog’ can also be used as a verb, which bears the meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide a place of discussions or news on a particular subject; while others function as more personal online journals. A typical blog has a combination of text, images, and links to other fellow blog members, Web pages, and other media related to the topic. The ability for readers to leave comments which represents their thoughts in an interactive format plays an important role of many blogs. Most blogs are mainly textual, although some focus on art (artlog) with graphics, photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos entries (vlog), music (MP3 blog), and audio broadcasting (podcasting).
As of December 2007, the well known blog search engine, Technorati was already tracking more than 112 million blogs, which is phenomenal.
